Klodeta Gjini, former champion in athletics: It is bitter that Albania does not have its athletes in the Olympic Games
Today Prime Minister Edi Rama hosted two Olympians who represented Albania in Paris, but who are not Albanians by origin.
Rama came out of an embarrassing situation, saying that if once Albania's sons ran away, today it adopts.
Former champion Klodeta Gjini told Dritare TV that adoption could be an alternative, but Albania cannot be represented only by foreigners, it must also be represented by its athletes.
Klodeta Gjini: It is bitter. I would like that together with the two foreign athletes who represented Albania in the Olympic Games, there were also Albanian athletes to complete this picture. It is fundamental and if Albania wants to not be represented only by adopted children in the future, you should invest in its children, in the children of Albania. The new generation must be prepared for sports and not just choose the short path of adoption from abroad. Albania must prepare and raise its athletes. Adoption can be an alternative, but Albania cannot be represented only by foreigners, but by its athletes.
The lack of Albanians in various sports is a proof of the lack of conditions to produce athletes.
Although during the dictatorship, Albania has had more focus and investment in sports and the discovery of talents. Even the football team is dominated by boys born and raised abroad.
