Journalist Afërdita Selimi passes away

Albanian Radio Television journalist Afërdita Selimi has passed away. Aphrodita passed away at the age of 68, after a long battle with a serious illness.

The news was announced through a post from the Association of Economic Journalists of Albania.

"SAD NEWS! It is with sadness that I inform you of the death of our colleague and friend Afërdita Selimi. Aphrodita, one of the most successful economic journalists in our country, passed away peacefully next to her family, after a long illness, the post says.

Afërdita began her career in journalism in 1977, after completing her higher studies at the Faculty of Political Sciences, Journalism Branch. Initially, she contributed to the local newspaper "Skhëndia" in Lushnjë and then throughout her life as a journalist at RTSH.

Afërdita Selimaj will be remembered for her dedication to social-economic shows, contributing with passion to many areas of radio and television journalism. She was one of the founders of economic journalism in Albania, becoming an inspiration and support for all journalists in this field.

Aferdita left behind in the archives of Radio Tirana and RTSH, thousands of chronicles and many shows, among which "Otranto Cycle 97", "Albanians and loan sharks" and others.

In 2000, she was appointed Director of the News Department at Radio Tirana, a position she held until August 2003. After that, she passionately directed the section for compatriots at Radio Tirana.

In 2003, elected by the Assembly of Albania, Afërdita was the first Chairperson of the Media Monitoring Board, near the CEC.

As RTSH journalist Afërdita Selimaj, she was the only journalist near the Albanian negotiating team in Geneva, for Albania's membership in the World Trade Organization.

From 1998 onwards, Afërdita has dedicatedly directed the League of Economic Journalists of Albania, LEGA.

For her media contribution in decades, Afërdita Selimaj in 2021, is honored by the President of the Republic of Albania with the title "Great Master".

But during her life and activity, she was also honored with the "Vangjush Gambeta" award from the Union of Journalists of Albania, for the best radio report on economic problems.

While the International Federation for World Peace in 1999 chose her as Ambassador of Peace. With her passing, we lost one of the most outstanding journalists and outstanding contributors to the field of information and economic journalism.
