Climate Change Service: 2024 is the hottest year on record

The Copernicus Climate Change Service has confirmed that 2024 is the hottest year on record.

According to them, an exceptional heat wave has increased average global temperatures during the January-November period, so much so that this year is certain to surpass 2023 as the hottest year on record.

Copernicus uses billions of measurements from satellites, ships, aircraft and weather stations to help calculate climate change over the years.

Its records date back to 1940, but other sources of climate data – such as ice cores, tree rings and coral skeletons – allow scientists to extend their conclusions using evidence from a much longer period.

Scientists say that the period we are living in now is probably the warmest period the planet has had in the last 125,000 years.
