In terms of foreign tourist flows, the World Tourism Organization ranks Albania

The World Tourism Organization has ranked Albania second in the world in terms of the rate of international tourists. In the "World Tourism Barometer", published with data on the tourism sector globally from January to July 2022, the WTO confirms Albania with a 19% increase compared to 2019, achieving one of the best recovery performances of the sector after the pandemic.

Also, the country has a positive indicator in the income generated by foreign tourists, where it ranks fourth, with a 32% increase compared to the income of 2019.

In the January-August period, Albania counted over 5.6 million foreign visitors, about 800 thousand more than in 2019, as visitors to protected areas (3.3 million in the first eight months of the year) and the preference of tourists foreigners for the northern region (41%) point to a diversification of the tourist offer and extension of the season. While the weight of tourism in the Gross Domestic Product is estimated to be over 17%.

According to the newly published Barometer, globally international tourist flows almost tripled from January to July 2022 (+172%) compared to the same period in 2021, but the sector still remains at 60% of the 2019 level, as many countries are finding it difficult to recover the trends.

In the event organized on September 27 on the occasion of the World Tourism Day, Minister Mirela Kumbaro announced that the preparation for the next tourist season has started and all procedures for the year 2023 will be closed within the month of December. According to Kumbaro, this will enable the private sector to better plan the work to manage tourist flows, setting a new standard for the organization of tourist seasons.
