Where do the Albanian workers live and where do the lazy ones live?

Different regions of the country show extreme attitudes towards work, as in some of them the working age population (+15 years old) shows a high interest to work or is always looking for a job, while in some others the population group at working age does not want to work, ie. is not looking for a job even though the market needs work.

For example, the regions of Gjirokastra and Korça have a higher interest in work than other regions. As reported by INSTAT in the Gjirokastra region, 74% of the working age population (+15 years old) worked or were looking for a job in the third quarter of 2021. Also, Korçars represent a higher interest than other regions for the work, as 68.7 percent of them were at work or looking for it. In contrast, in the region of Lezha, the interest of the population for work is very low, although businesses in the area show significant shortages of employees.

According to INSTAT data, only 48.9 percent of the working age population in the Lezha region was at work or looking for a job in the third quarter, while the rest more than half of the working age population are not even working. nor looking for work.

On the other hand businesses in the area are suffering from pronounced staff shortages. Alban Zusi, who has several factories in the processing industry in these cities, stated that the lack of employees has become the main concern in recent years. Lezha is one of the counties in the country that offers employment in services due to the rapid development of tourism. Also, the region of Lezha has developed agriculture, argotism and processing industry.

After Lezha, Dibra residents show low interest in the labor market. In this county only 54 percent of the working age population were working or looking for work. Dibra is a region where self-employment in agriculture predominates.

The population of Tirana district also has a low share in the labor market of the working age population. Only 55% of the population over the age of 15 were at work or looking for work, ranking the capital with the most passive population in the country even though it has the highest job offer nationally as a result of the higher concentration of economic activity.

During the third quarter of 2021, in the region of Durrës there was a higher interest to participate in the labor market compared to the previous two years, as a result of involvement in the reconstruction process // B.Hoxha
