The increase in prices for basic food products in Kosovo has reached 11.2 percent, as never before. There have been numerous reactions from the opposition to this "flight" of prices. The Democratic League of Kosovo has said that with deep concern they are following the record price increase.

Whereas, the Democratic Party of Kosovo has reacted by saying that price inflation has set a black record. The increase in prices for basic food products in Kosovo since April last year has increased by 11.2 percent, according to a new report by the Statistics Agency. KAS states that the Harmonized Index for Consumer Prices for April 2022 has increased by 1.5 percent.

According to the report "Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices, April 2022", the largest increase in prices is observed in oils and food fats by 15.6 percent, followed by gas by 10.8 percent and transport services by 3.9 percent. "The overall Harmonized Consumer Price Index is higher at an average of 1.5 percent in April 2022, compared to March 2022.

This is mainly explained by the increase in consumer prices for bread and cereals by 1.2 percent, meat by 3.6 percent, milk, cheese and eggs by 0.9 percent, edible oils and fats by 15.6 percent, fruits by 1.5 percent, "vegetables by 5.4 percent, sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and sweets by 2 percent", the report says.
