The Minister of Tourism and Environment Mirela Kumbaro, who is in New York, in the framework of the high-level discussion at the United Nations on sustainable tourism, held a meeting with the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Zurab Pololikashvili .

Pololikashvili accepted the invitation for an official visit to Albania, while getting acquainted with the achievements of the sector in recent years and the need to ensure quality tourism.

"The legal package that encourages and supports strategic investments has begun to give the first results. We have reduced the VAT for all hotel structures, while for 4 and 5 star hotels some of the taxes have been zeroed. This has brought international brands to Albania and more we expect. The infrastructure has been made available to tourism, with the construction of a second airport in the north and soon with the construction of Vlora Airport. We are clear in our vision and want to build sustainable tourism. We ask for your assistance to build a data system for tourism, through a new and reliable methodology ", said during the meeting Minister Kumbaro.

Zurab Pololikashvili offered his full support, expressing enthusiasm for increasing the area of protected areas in Albania as a real example of sustainable tourism. He praised the work of Minister Kumbaro, while having concrete proposals for cooperation and assistance. "Your participation here increases the visibility of Albania. We have started to help different countries in building guidelines to benefit investments and we want to do the same with Albania. We practically offer successful models that can be tailored to your context. Through our guides we suggest to potential investors the destination of Albania. This is a new page of our cooperation and I am very happy to visit your country in the coming months. "Our assistance will be in innovation, sustainability and education."

Kumbaro and Pololikashvili agreed to organize in Albania one of the annual events of the World Tourism Organization, such as the annual meeting of the European Commission with the ministers of tourism of Europe.
