Albin Kurti: Mutual recognition at the center of the dialogue with Serbia, not

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, reiterated on Thursday that the European proposal for the normalization of relations with Serbia is a good basis for discussions about an agreement that should be based on mutual recognition, while underlining that none of the agreements reached in Brussels can take precedence over other agreements.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti met last night at a working dinner with the special envoy of the European Union for the Kosovo-Serbia talks, Miroslav Lajçak, to discuss the next steps in the process of normalizing relations between the two countries.

"We have agreed that all past agreements that have been reached in the dialogue must be fully implemented," said Lajçak through a message on social networks.

Prime Minister Kurti said that diplomats are insisting that the agreement on the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority be emphasized more.

"However, that agreement is already highlighted because it is the only agreement from the 33 Brussels agreements that has not passed the test of the Constitutional Court".

The United States has called on the government of Kosovo to present its proposals for the association, while the American embassy in Pristina has invited representatives of political parties and civil society to a meeting at the end of this month to discuss this issue.

Prime Minister Kurti said that associations of municipalities that are territorial and not only administrative units, on ethnic grounds contradict the Constitution of Kosovo.

"Mutual recognition at the center, not Association at the center, not even a prerequisite. President Biden said it, Chancellor Scholz said it, and I am repeating the same here," he said.
