The 24-year-old arrested for the attack on Salman Rushdies: I'm surprised he survived
"I'm surprised he survived"... These were the first words of the suspected author of the attack on Salman Rushdies, the author of the novel "The Satanic Verses".
From a New York prison, 24-year-old arrested Hadi Mattar spoke to the New York Post newspaper after the stabbing.
"He attacked Islam with the "Satanic Verses", said the 24-year-old, who, however, admitted that he had read only two pages of the novel.
"I don't like him. I don't think he is a very good person. I do not like it. He is someone who attacked Islam, his value system," said the 24-year-old.
We remind you that the award-winning author suffered three stab wounds to the neck and stomach, while he also suffered blows to the right eye, chest and right thigh.
When the attacker was asked if Ayatollah Khomeini, who in 1989 issued a fatfa (religious death sentence) against Salman Rushdie, was a source of inspiration for him, Mattar did not answer.
"I appreciate Ayatollah. He is a great personality, "said the author. At the same time, he denied that he was in contact with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard, but admitted that he had seen videos of the author Salman Rushdie on YouTube.
