Daily Mail investigation: Albanian man earns £1 million a week smuggling migrants to England
An investigation by the Daily Mail has revealed one of the leaders of the Albanian gangs that smuggle Albanian immigrants to Britain. In the British media report, it is said that the Volon, known as the 'Golden Lion', earns around 1 million pounds a week taking migrants to Britain in unsafe dinghies.
In the undercover footage he told journalists posing as customers he could take them in for £4,500 each and promised British authorities would give them food, blankets and everything else they needed before putting them up in a hotel . After that, you can go wherever you want, he told them.
This is just one of a number of organized trafficking gangs found in northern France.
The investigation found that gang warfare - with frequent gunfights - is rife between rival traffickers who act as mafia bosses.
More than 32,000 migrants have crossed the English Channel in small boats so far this year - more than they crossed in all of 2021.
Albanians made up about 60 percent of arrivals during the summer, the report says.
Small boat trips are very dangerous and sometimes deadly, with 27 migrants – including children – drowning when a dinghy capsized in Calais last November.
The Daily Mail found that the people-smuggling industry is thriving despite the dangers and efforts to prevent illegal crossings.
