China announces close energy cooperation with Russia
China has said it is willing to establish closer cooperation with Russia on energy issues to ensure global energy security.
President Xi Jinping made the announcement as the G7 prepares to impose new measures on Russia's oil exports.
In a message to the fourth China-Russia Energy Forum, Xi Jinping said:
"China is willing to work with Russia to establish a closer energy partnership, promote the development of clean and green energy, and jointly maintain international energy security and the stability of industry supply chains."
The statement may bring disappointment to those who harbor hopes that China may seek to distance itself from Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine.
