Bad weather hits northern Italy, numerous floods and landslides
Heavy rains have hit the Piedmont region in Italy, causing extensive damage. Firefighters intervened dozens of times in Turin, Val di Susa and Val Chisone, where multiple floods were recorded. As reported in Feletto, a 58-year-old man is missing after being swept away by the flow of the Orco stream while working with a tractor. In Val di Susa, the river Gerardo has overflowed isolating around 50 people in several villages.
There were also problems in the area of Savona and Imperia due to floods and landslides that affected the roads and the railway towards the border with France. While in Mattie, the collapse of a bridge has left 30 people isolated, while firefighters are working to deal with the damage. In Savona, firefighters are busy with flooding, landslides and removing trees from roads. In Turin and its surroundings, over 30 flood rescues have been carried out.
A powerful storm also hit Milan, where water has covered the streets, especially in the inner city area. The level of the Seveso River has risen, activating the Milan Reservoir. Communities in the Lambro park have been evacuated after the Lambro River overflowed its levels, flooding the Ponte Lambro neighborhood and surrounding areas. Firefighters in Milan are carrying out about 50 interventions to cope with emergencies and to ensure the safety of citizens. The situation remains critical even in the province of Lodi, where atmospheric conditions are causing concerns and problems in traffic.
