After two years of war, Switzerland calls a peace conference in Ukraine
Switzerland's government said Wednesday it will host a high-level international conference in June to help forge a path to peace in Ukraine, after more than two years of war there, and in the hope that Russia will be able to join the peace process one day.
Bürgenstock Resort is expected to be the venue for the conference on June 15-16.
It is expected to be attended by government officials from dozens of countries, after the presentation of plans by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis.
The Swiss government has said that European Union officials and envoys from Brazil, China, Ethiopia, India, Saudi Arabia and South Africa participated in the talks on organizing the conference.
In the statement, it was said that taking into account the old diplomatic tradition, Switzerland considers that it has a responsibility to contribute to the peace process in Ukraine.
The war in Ukraine started on February 24, 2022.
