About 50,000 people have been asked to evacuate their homes due to flooding that has hit Sydney for the third time since the start of the year.
The city's roads are closed, some houses are under water and thousands of people are without electricity.
Flooding across Australia has killed more than 20 people this year.
Residents of another 50 areas have been warned to prepare to evacuate, due to the flooding of several major rivers. The bad weather is also affecting the neighboring Hunter and Illaëarra regions.
According to the Meteorological Service, 800mm of rain fell in four days in parts of NSW, almost a third more than the city's average annual rainfall.
