Pope Francis' condition is improving after being hospitalized for a respiratory infection.
Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said the Holy Father has resumed work while he continues to receive treatment.
"His Holiness Pope Francis spent a peaceful night. His clinical condition is gradually improving and he is continuing the planned treatment. Today, after having breakfast, he read the newspapers and resumed work," the statement said.
The Pope will spend several days in hospital, according to the Vatican statement.
