Putin: Russia is not crazy to use nuclear weapons, only if...
Vladimir Putin has said the threat of nuclear war is growing but insisted Russia was not "crazy" and would not use its first nuclear weapons.
The Russian president stressed that his country would only use weapons of mass destruction in response to an attack.
Speaking at the annual meeting of the Russian human rights council, he also said the war in Ukraine could be a "long process".
Western officials believe that Putin originally planned for a quick victory. Russia's ability to use nuclear weapons has come under increased scrutiny since it invaded Ukraine in February.
