Venice will limit the number of tour groups to 25 people starting Thursday in a new effort to reduce mass tourism. After the successful experiment with the entrance ticket to Venice for tourists, local authorities will also ban tour guides from using loudspeakers.
The measures aim to provide peace of mind for residents and ensure better pedestrian movement in the city.
The authorities also decided to impose fines of between 25 and 500 euros on those who do not comply with the measures, which were scheduled to come into effect from June, but were pushed back to early August.
However, there are exceptions, for children up to two years old, as well as students and those visiting Venice as part of an educational trip.
