The political leader of Hamas is killed in Iran

The political leader of Hamas, Ismail Haniya, was killed yesterday in Tehran, where he had gone for the swearing in of the country's new president, Massoud Pezheskian.

The Palestinian Islamic movement calls this event a "treacherous Zionist occupation".

"The brother, the leader, Mujahid Ismail Haniya, the leader of the movement, was killed in a treacherous Zionist raid against his office in Tehran after attending the inauguration of the new president of the Islamic Republic," says Hamas.

Sami Abu Zohri, a Hamas official, told Reuters that this killing is a very serious escalation by Israel.

Along with Haniya, his bodyguard was also killed. Last April, Haniya received the news during a meeting that his three sons and four grandsons had been killed. His cold reaction went viral on the network, as he brought the meeting to the end.
