Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare, one of the largest health insurance companies in the US, was shot in the chest in midtown Manhattan.
Brian Thompson, 50, was shot shortly after 6:45 a.m. local time, according to the police report, on 6th Avenue and specifically at the New York Hilton Midtown hotel.
He was then taken to Mount Sinai West Hospital in critical condition, but unfortunately could not survive.
Officers are still searching for the shooter, who fled eastbound on foot along 6th Avenue. He was wearing a cream-colored jacket, a black face mask and a gray backpack.
Police believe Thompson was the target of the attack, which took place during the annual insurance investor conference in New York.
Police have announced a $10,000 reward for information about Thompson's death.
