The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, has reacted regarding the investigation launched by SPAK and today's developments. In a reaction on social media, Veliaj says that he welcomes and supports the procedural steps taken by the special prosecution regarding this matter.

Taking cue from today's developments, the procedural steps taken by the special prosecution regarding the property investigation being conducted against me and my family members are not only welcome, but I also support them at every step.
It's been a long time since my investigation and trial have been conducted by oppositionists mired in the mire of corruption and the "so-called media," who fight every official and public functionary who does not succumb to their pressures and blackmail for unfair benefits.
My family and I, as citizens of this country, but also in our capacity as Mayor of Tirana, will always be open to every action and decision of the justice institutions, but at the same time despising with disgust any untruth that aims to damage my image and that of my family, as well as spreading, above all, disinformation about the very work of these institutions.
I do not belong to that old political caste that, for a long time, placed itself above the law, above justice and above institutional accountability. All of these who owe a debt to justice, hold up the banner of supporting justice when, in accordance with the law and court decisions, procedural actions are carried out within the framework of investigations, and attack it by any means now that justice has begun to act on them, thus breaking the long-standing taboo of impunity.
