From the end of 2021, the Democratic Party has requested the change of the Territorial Map. DP demands the addition of municipalities and the division of the country into 6 regions.
PD comes out with the claim that: Citizens do not receive services, because the residential centers are far from the service centers.
Among the others, the SP opposes this reform with the argument that: For economic reasons, a smaller municipality cannot be maintained.
Today, the proposal of the territorial map requested by the Democratic Party was made public and it follows as follows, according to the media:
From the 61 municipalities that it is today, it goes to 94 municipalities
The number of inhabitants per local unit decreases from 75,000 to 50,000
The average area per local unit decreases from 471 km2 to 315 km2
The number of local elected representatives increases from 61 to 94. The number of councilors increases from 1607 to 2114
The number of municipalities per district increases from 5.1 municipalities to 7.4 municipalities.
