Wadephul calls on political parties in Albania: Consensus on electoral reform

CDU / CSU parliamentary group deputy leader Johann David Wadephul has called on political parties in Albania to return to consensus on voter lists.

Wadephul called on Albania to reach a consensus in the Political Council on electoral reform, after the meeting he had in Berlin with the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gent Cakaj.

Wadephul told "DW" at the end of the meeting, today in Berlin, that Germany supports Albania in meeting the six conditions set by the Bundestag. But he added that there is still work to be done.

"Return to the consensus in the Political Council. And give the ODIHR the opportunity to assess the changes that will be made to the Political Council on electoral rolls. "Only if the ODIHR says that the electoral reform is in full compliance with the OSCE / ODIHR criteria, then it will be easy for us to say that the condition of electoral reform has been met," Wadephul said.

Cakaj is in Berlin for a two-day visit to lobby for the opening of the First Intergovernmental Conference. So far he has met with the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on European Affairs, Gunther Krichbaum, and with the Minister for European Affairs, Michael Roth.
