Two digital initiatives that challenged the pandemic year on the couch by the RCC

The internet was the only thing that succeeded in the pandemic. The line never fell, and as Israeli academic Yuval Harari pointed out, was the fact that the Internet withstood the increase in traffic, the critical variable that enabled us to continue our lives in a virtual dimension which constituted the most potent weapon of our defense against the virus. Through technology and especially the internet we have managed to overcome the insurmountable challenges and obstacles for humanity until a few years ago.

Virtual meetings and conferences in Zoom, social communication with friends and relatives online, custom from home, was a kind of liberation, comfort and form of survival in conditions of a deadly threat.

In this wave, RCC with the Albanian Majlinda Bregu opened the doors for the innovators of the region, giving opportunities for work, but especially new ideas that bring closer the countries of the region and more innovation.

Balkathon and Futourismo were two RCC initiatives, led by Majlinda Bregu during the pandemic year. The first was a call for innovative ideas of young people in the field of technology and the winners were guaranteed a partnership with the RCC to develop their ideas to the end having all the logistical and financial means needed to achieve this goal, in a region where this support is much needed.

Meanwhile, Futourismo was a similar call, but as can be understood from the name of the project it had to do with technological innovation in the field of tourism, a sector which suffered greatly from the pandemic situation and the lockdowns that accompanied it.

Today the winners were announced, who were previously predicted to be 6, but in the end were decided 7 because of the very good digital ideas that were offered and that could not be differentiated by quality.

Idetë fituese nga grupet e Ballkanit Perëndimor të cilët morën pjesë në konkurs ishin:
- Guidi, me projektin Veni, Vidi, Guidi.
- BIB Team, me projektin Be in Balkan Mobile Application
- Digital Clinic, me projektin e-Health Tourism
- TED Team, me projektin Safe Traveling western Balkans
- Sanatec7, me projektin VIRTUAL CULTURE
- Meanderbug, me projektin Meanderbug App
- BALKAN SPECIALISTS, me projektin WB6 BALKAN DAILY TOURS

RCC will continue to establish networks of professionals in the region. The competitiveness of the six Western Balkan countries in tourism is closely linked to sustainability and will be further supported through the Common Regional Market. FUTOURISMO will continue to grow in the future and will invite young professionals to invest their energy and creativity to generate digital solutions that can help tourism. "Seeing so much talent and digital skills gives us the assurance that the future of tourism in our region is in safe hands," said Bregu.
