Flu epidemic on the rise! Minister Koçiu: Vaccination, the most efficient

Minister of Health Albana Koçiu held a meeting today with health structures on measures against the flu epidemic that has swept the country. Currently, Albania has around 14,000 weekly cases of upper respiratory infections and 5,700 of lower respiratory infections. Since the second week of January, the number of cases has increased by 2,300, and a further increase is expected in late January and early February.

In addition to the flu, Covid-19 and the RSV virus are also circulating in the country.

In a Facebook post, Minister Koçiu emphasized that vaccination remains the most effective way to prevent complications from the flu. According to her, health structures are on standby to monitor the current flu situation in the country and to vaccinate and raise awareness among citizens.

"Based on the assessment of the epidemiological situation in the country, we met today with the leaders of health structures, where we focused on reporting on the measures being implemented to cope with the flu situation and guarantee the protection of citizens' health. Vaccination remains the most efficient way to prevent complications from flu. Health structures are on standby by carrying out: Monitoring the current flu situation in the country; Continuing free vaccination against flu for at-risk groups; Raising awareness among citizens about following recommendations to minimize transmission and prevent seasonal viruses; Strengthening surveillance for respiratory infections to protect public health. Prevention begins with a simple action: vaccination. Take care of your health and that of your loved ones! #ChooseLifeGetVaccinated", writes Koçiu.
