The risk of dementia may increase if you eat these foods

We all eat them – convenience foods make our busy lives so much easier. Plus, they're delicious – who doesn't love hot dogs, hot dogs, hamburgers, fries, sodas, cookies, candy, candy, and ice cream, to name a few?

If more than 20% of your daily calorie intake is from ultra-processed foods, you may increase your risk of cognitive decline, a new study has found.

This amount would equate to about 400 calories per day on a 2,000 calorie per day diet. By comparison, a small order of fries and a regular cheeseburger contains a total of 530 calories.

The part of the brain involved in executive functioning — the ability to process information and make decisions — is particularly at risk, according to the study published Monday in JAMA Neurology.

In fact, men and women who ate the most processed foods had a 28% greater decline in cognitive ability and a 25% greater decline in executive function compared to people who ate the least amount of highly processed foods, the study found.
