The first vaccine against liver cancer is being tested in Italy
Hepavac-201 is the first in the world for liver cancer and is being tested in a hospital in Naples.
After several studies and trials, the vaccine is ready to be given to the first patient suffering from hepatocellular carcinoma without acute side effects. Three more patients are on the waiting list to start treatment in the coming months.
A total of 10 patients will be enrolled.
The team of specialists is led by the scientific coordinator of the project, Luigi Buonaguro.
The development of this vaccine started in 2013 and the first results will finally be available by June 2024.
The creation of this vaccine was made possible by the European Union.
