'Emily in Paris,' one of Netflix's most watched series, has sparked debate between Paris and Rome. "We will fight hard" to ensure the series stays in Paris, French President Emmanuel Macron said in an interview with Variety magazine, published on Wednesday.

The fourth season of the series about an American woman who moves her life to France without any knowledge of the language or culture was released in September. At the end of the season, Emily receives a job offer in Rome. According to some reports, the fifth season will take place in the Italian capital.

"'Emily in Paris' in Rome makes no sense," Macron said, "we will ask her to stay in Paris!"

The Mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, responded to Macron's statements.

"Dear Emmanuel Macron, don't worry: Emily is fine in Rome. And besides, let him choose what his heart desires.
