Martha Stewart reveals that she broke up with Anthony Hopkins because she was intimidated by his role as Hannibal Lecter
American entrepreneur Martha Stewart has revealed that she split from the famous actor Anthony Hopkins because of his role as Hannibal Lecter in the movie "The Silence of the Lambs".
She said on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" that she had once met the actor twice, but ended their relationship because she found the role that earned him the Oscar award creepy.
"I met Sir Anthony Hopkins, but I broke up with him because I could not stop thinking about him as Hannibal Lecter," she said.
"I have a big, scary house in Maine and I could not even imagine taking Anthony Hopkins there. I could not because all I could think was that he was eating, you know… ”she said, not concluding her opinion, but alluding that he was a cannibal.
Ellen then asked if they really had a relationship and if she canceled it because of his infamous role.
"Yes," Stewart said, causing laughter from the audience.
It is not clear when they were together, but Hopkins married Stella Arroyave in 2003. This is his third marriage.
Hopkins, who won his second Academy Award for Best Actor in 2021 for "The Father," reprinted his roles as Hannibal Lecter in 2001's "Hannibal" and 2002's "Red Dragon."
