A female mayor was shot dead in Mexico the day after Claudia Sheinbaum's historic presidential victory.
Three days later, a congresswoman in Mexico was killed after the bloodiest election ever.
A local Mexican councilor in a small town in Guerrero was killed on Friday by armed men who appeared at her door.
Esmeralda Garzon, who headed the equality and gender commission in Tixtla's city council, was killed in the early afternoon as she was leaving her home.
Garzon was elected under the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), the once dominant party which joined forces with other opposition groups to form a coalition against the now ruling MORENA party.
However, Garzon supported MORENA's candidates in the June 2 election, according to posts on her social media accounts.
A day after the election results, Yolanda Sanchez, the mayor of Cotija since 2021, was shot 19 times in the city center. Her bodyguard also lost her life.
The last election campaign has been described as the bloodiest ever with 39 political candidates or office holders killed.
Analysts of these criminal events link them to broken drug deals and other illegal activities.
On Sunday, MORENA candidate Claudia Sheinbaum won the presidency, becoming the first woman to hold the office.
