The world championship of martial arts this year will take place in Tirana

This year, Tirana is the organizer of the world championship of mixed martial arts. During the championship, which will take place from November 19 to 26, 50 countries will participate with over 500 athletes. To discuss this important activity that takes place in the year when Tirana is also the European City of Sports, the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, met with the President of the International Federation of Mixed Martial Arts, Kerrith Brown.

"For us it has been an extraordinary evolution, not only this year that Tirana is the European City of Sports, but all these years with many young people involved in sports, especially in martial arts. I don't know if we are the best in the Balkans, but I know that we came second in the ranking of the last championship and we are climbing even higher. It is a fantastic platform, with extraordinary people, to use Tirana as the place that will host the world championship from November 19 to 26. In fact, it is a perfect season, because then come the November holidays, so the coincidence is perfect, as a precursor to our national holidays," said Veliaj.

He said that such activities, of this dimension, are also an inspiration for young people to engage more in sports. "It will be a fantastic opportunity for young people to be inspired, to see how they can engage more with sports and as we have said, my concern for this year has been that at the end of the year we have the largest number of boys and of girls enrolled in sports classes, whether in gyms that have been opened by the Municipality, or even in new sports such as martial arts", Veliaj added.

The president of the Federation praised the mayor for the support. "I appreciate it immensely! It is wonderful to have your support, especially now that we will hold the World Martial Arts Championship in Tirana. It is truly an honor to have this opportunity to work with the National Federation and have this support. It's a fantastic time to have mixed martial arts located in Tirana and I'm very happy to be given this opportunity to show the rest of the world what Tirana has to offer," said Kerrith Brown.

Albania will be represented in this championship with 20 athletes.
