Roger Federer retires from tennis
Swiss star Roger Federer has announced his retirement from tennis.
The 41-year-old has not competed since Wimbledon in July 2021. He has had a series of knee operations.
Federer tweeted the news, saying his farewell event will be the Laver Cup in London next week.
"As many of you know, the last three years have presented me with challenges in the form of injuries and surgeries. I have been working hard to get back into full competitive shape. But I also know my body's capacities and limits, and its message to me lately has been clear. I am 41 years old. I played more than 1500 games over 24 years. "Tennis has treated me more generously than I could have ever dreamed, and now I have to figure out when it's time to end my career."
