If you've been on social media for too long, you could be suffering from "Brain Rot," the word of the year 2024, according to Oxford University Press.
Following public consultation, Oxford University Press announced its choice - defined as "alleged deterioration of a person's mental or intellectual condition, particularly seen as a result of overconsumption of material (now particularly internet content) deemed to be irrelevant or unchallenging"
"'Brain rot' speaks to one of the perceived dangers of virtual life and how we're spending our free time," Casper Grathëohl, president of Oxford Languages, said in the announcement.
