Washington Post: While Albanians were locked inside, something special happened outside

The closed stance of Albanians by the coronavirus has allowed flamingos and other special birds to gather and stay calm in the coastal lagoon near the Adriatic Sea.
This is what the Washington Post writes in a recently published article, where it also shows through photos the flamingos that look most numerous in their typical dance.

The Washington Post article goes on to say:
Local officials and locals say there are about 3,000 flamingos in the Narta Lagoon, an important habitat for waterfowl that have returned in recent years after a long absence.
Also in this lagoon, more pelicans, herons and other species have been noticed, giving another leak to the 10 km long lagoon and you are followed 90 miles south of Tirana.
'Isn't it nice to see fearless flamingos around,' says Dhimitër Konomi, part of a local group that manages the fishing business in the Narta Lagoon.

While Nexhip Hysolokaj, regional biodiversity expert says that the decrease in human activity during this pandemic explains why birds are staying longer in the lagoon, and fortunately they can increase in number.
‘Flamingos are very delicate species. The lack of vehicles in circulation, the decrease in human activity and tranquility have positively affected them. They have found food and tranquility, and that is likely to increase their numbers, ' he said.
Researchers will now begin studies to see if the calm caused by coronavirus has turned the lagoon into a favorable place for those who even raise their nests. Dhimitër Konomi says that a lagoon full of life is a treasure that can promote tourism in the country.

However Hysolokal says it is a bit difficult, as the lagoon is part of a protected landscape, with sand dunes, islands and beaches. He says that this is also the lungs of Vlora. 'There should be sustainable but alternative tourism.'
