The United Kingdom will ban the use of social networks for minors under the age of 16.

This was announced by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, explaining that the measure aims to protect children from online dangers.

The decision follows a similar ban adopted last year by Australia, the first country in the world to take such a step.

"We hope to pass the regulation before Christmas and make the ban effective early next year, perhaps in the spring," Starmer said during a press conference.

"This is not a decision I make lightly and I will not present it as if social media has not brought any benefits to young people, because that would be wrong," he added.
