Why lifting is no longer a matter of age and wrinkles

Why lifting is no longer a matter of age and wrinkles

The first facelift was performed in Berlin about 120 years ago. More than a century later, things have changed. Now it's no longer a matter of age or wrinkles. Those under the age of 40 are increasingly preferring this procedure.

In 2023, the age of patients undergoing facelifts in the US ranged from 20-39 years old.

Dr. Jonathan Zelken, a board-certified plastic surgeon based in Newport Beach, California, said his clients in their 20s and 30s want sharper jawlines, sharper cheeks, and sharper eyebrows.

Rather than eliminating wrinkles, their goal is to enhance the appearance of existing wrinkles, Dr. Zelken explained. “It’s not a rejuvenation strategy. It’s a beautification strategy.”

In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of young people who want to emphasize their features as they are under digital influence all day long.

And those who are older

The older population wants this intervention because they want to restore something they had in their youth. While the young are sometimes chasing something that doesn't exist, something they don't have.
