The extreme heat wave that has engulfed Paris and much of France has forced authorities to partially close the Eiffel Tower.
According to the official announcement, the iconic monument will remain closed after 12:00, while only visitors with reservations before this time will be allowed in. The tower, which usually stays open until midnight, is operating with limited hours due to high temperatures.
The measure has been in effect since June 23, a day that has been described as the hottest ever recorded in France since national measurements began in 1947.
At 3:00 p.m., the national heat index reached 29.6 degrees Celsius, breaking the previous record of 29.4 degrees set in July 2019 and equaled during the 2003 heat wave.
