Ambassador Eric Wendt has been confirmed by the US Senate with a vote of 51 to 47, receiving final approval for his diplomatic assignment.
The vote in the plenary session comes after earlier approval in the relevant Senate committee, where his candidacy received the support of the majority of members.
Earlier, his candidacy had received the support of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee by a vote of 19-3, paving the way for final approval in the plenary session of the Senate.
With this vote, the confirmation procedure is completed and the ambassador is expected to take office in the coming days, according to the deadlines set by the US administration.
He is a retired United States Army officer with over 34 years of service.
He has served as commander of NATO Special Operations Command, as well as held key positions in the Middle East and the Pacific region.
During his career, Wendt served as the U.S. Security Coordinator for the Israeli-Palestinian Authority from 2017 to 2019, as well as Chief of Staff at U.S. Pacific Command.
