"If I don't marry you, I'll become a priest." The story of Pope Francis' lost love

Before the world knew him as Pope Francis, Jorge Mario Bergoglio was just a young boy on the humble streets of Buenos Aires. Like any teenager, his heart was beating fast for someone. He fell in love with a girl from his neighborhood, a sincere and deep feeling that almost changed his fate.
Bergoglio loved her so much that at one point he said to the girl:
"If I don't marry you, I'll become a priest."
Torn between human love and a greater calling, Jorge went through a difficult time of reflection. His heart was faced with a painful choice: to start a family, or to dedicate his life to God.
In the end, the divine call was stronger. He renounced earthly love and set out for the Jesuit seminary, laying a cornerstone on the path that would lead him many years later to the throne of Saint Peter.
