Alberta to permanently switch to daylight saving time in November 2026

It's official. Soon, Albertans will no longer have to change their clocks twice a year.
The Canadian province of Alberta will end the practice of changing clocks in 2026, deciding to remain permanently on Daylight Saving Time (DST) all year round, with the aim of protecting public health and simplifying daily routines.
The decision came after growing public pressure and support from various sectors, including farmers, who point out that animals' routines do not change according to human-set clocks. With the move, Alberta joins regions such as the Yukon and British Columbia that have abandoned seasonal clock changes.
The decision is also supported by scientific studies linking seasonal clock changes, particularly the transition to daylight saving time in the spring, with temporary increases in sleep deprivation, work accidents, road accidents and cardiovascular risks.
While sleep experts often prefer permanent standard time for more light in the morning, governments tend to opt for permanent daylight saving time to extend light in the evening, encourage outdoor activities, and support the local economy.
