By Nertil Jole/ The recent event of the tragic loss of life of a judge of the Republic is undoubtedly one of the most resounding alarm bells, which must awaken our conscience as a society, to raise to a whole new level the responsibility of exercising every duty that, with free will or not so optional, we have chosen to carry on our shoulders.
This high sense of responsibility is even more valuable in certain institutional environments, which have a special importance or critical infrastructure.
In just 24 hours, so much has been said, so much has been articulated from different angles – analytical or emotional. All of what has been said may be legitimate, except for one; the hatred that justifies the tragic loss of human life.
It is not only sad, but also very dangerous at the same time, that hate speech, flowing freely through social networks, is turning into a malignant norm, which, with our carefree conformity or "approval", is gradually cementing the wrong spirit of social coexistence.
This is constantly inciting verbal or physical violence, undoing the human sentiment that we all must manifest, to reflect and meditate consciously on the reasons – first in the name of love for life, and then to embody the chain of values or standards of well-being. This would ensure a fair well-being, as we desire and aim, without ever stopping and tiring of the effort to each give a human, professional, fair and empathetic contribution.
Life brings surprises, which can happen to us from the day we see the first ray of light until the day we no longer see that ray – to leave the turn to others who will also live and leave their mark in this world so troubled and poisoned by disasters caused, neither by God nor by Nature, but by ourselves!
We are destined to overcome difficulties that never end as long as we breathe, challenges that grow us or lock us into a shell of ourselves, dreams and aspirations that, when realized, seem to give life a more tangible meaning, or that, on the contrary, exhaust our courage to continue the inevitable effort.
All are trails on which we walk, with sober faith or passion, feeling at every step or stage of this trying life journey the weight of motives and reasons why we should never stop working better and hoping more consciously.
Optimism and one's own example are the starting point of the present and the coming tomorrow, to progressively, little by little, witness a life well-deserved and in harmony with one another.
In our societies, we are only shocked when a human life is suddenly snapped like a thread by the hand of the person themselves, and we are not shocked when we witness injustices from the smallest to the greatest with chronic silence and apathy, without doing anything to improve ourselves.
Political mistakes, as part of our social development, do not constitute a reason for justification or underestimation of the stage of social conscience, which must remain vigilant, active, and steadfast in the demand for justice and the common good.
That's why the red light on that detector has such great importance. Because, if it had taken on the meaning for which it was lit, it would at least have avoided a tragedy like the one that happened, while at best it would have perhaps enabled the justice system itself to speed up and improve decisions that have been missing for years, which, if we had all together addressed responsibly from the "zero moment" of their occurrence, would have arrived not only at the right time, but also with the non-negotiable guarantee of safety for life.
