Monika Lubonja: We used to break taboos, today we fill the minutes

By Monika Lubonja/ In May 2010, six strong women, with different characters, but brought together by the same need for freedom, for the first time launched a different show. A space where words came without a predetermined script, where courage was not censored and thoughts were expressed bluntly, as they were.

We talked about books, about movies, about music, about culture and about life. We talked about topics that needed to be talked about, about taboos that needed to be broken. We weren't there to fill time, but to bring ideas, to provoke thought and to give the public a new window.

On the panel were four women who did not mince words, often putting men for the first time, facing the embarrassment and situations of truth. Behind them, the author and screenwriter maintained the spirit and authenticity of the project. One of the most watched shows of those years, of course we did not have Instagram at that time but the audience felt the change.

Today, when you turn on the TV, you find panels filled with rosy events, with light conversations that exist only for clicks. Free speech has been replaced by the word of fast consumption. Once we broke taboos, today we fill the minutes.

For me, that show remains one of the most beautiful and powerful projects I've ever done. A memory of a time when six women decided to speak freely and were heard.

Yesterday we were talking about free speech, today we are talking about easy speech.
A memory of a freedom that is missing today.
