Veliaj: We will build 8 new schools in Tirana. Free food for all students

The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, announced today that the construction of new schools on the outskirts of the capital will begin. In a TV interview, Veliaj stated that there are a total of 8 schools that are expected to be built, specifically 4 in the Astir area, two in the Urban neighborhood of Unaza e Madhe, one in Yzberisht and another in Kashar.

"There are some important decisions related to some new schools that we are opening. In the area of Fresk, we have built several new schools, so we have completed there, while the two areas that we have left were these two areas, that is, the area of the Great Ring and in the New Ring, there we have a package of four schools . We have two in the urban neighborhood, another in Yzberisht, another in Kashar. We have passed the budget for these schools and we are starting immediately. There will be 4 schools in Astir and I believe it is great news. If this package we have passed these 4 schools, next year we will pass the 4 schools mainly of unit 2. That is, the whole area called the suburbs between Sauk and Farka. At the former Police Academy and at the former hospital called the Arab Hospital, an old structure there. In this sense, we complete this whole panorama of 40 or so schools that we have done. We opened with BE, the Kombinat schools, which were damaged the most because they were mostly prefabricated. If there's one thing I'm proud of, it's this package of schools. From the last census, Tirana was the only city that is growing. If in many other municipalities we have to make difficult decisions to close a suburban school with 8 children who are better off coming to the central school than staying there, we have the opposite problem", said Veliaj.

Veliaj said that the Municipality will offer free meals in all its state schools, so that all children have an equal start. He emphasized that the revolution that the Municipality has made in kindergartens and nurseries, the time has come to make it in schools as well. The mayor also mentioned the plan to open a social center for autistic children in the capital.

"I believe that just as we did at Piramida where 2000 children every month receive courses on information technology, I believe that the task of a municipality is to give everyone an equal start. The start may be different for some. Today, a student with the student card travels for free and with the student card 50% of the cost of the dormitories is paid by the Municipality of Tirana. I believe that this is a democratic way, so that a child does not feel differentiated. It will probably work with a catering system. Definitely, the food will be free, like the kindergartens we have. Today we have made a revolution in kindergartens. We found kindergartens and nurseries where children ate chips and colored sodas. The revolution that we could do in nurseries and kindergartens, the time has come to do it in schools as well. We want to open another social center for children on the autistic spectrum. There is an extraordinary problem and it is not only the child who needs help", said Veliaj.
