Majlinda Bregu ends her mandate at the RCC: 6 years of regional cooperation as a good lesson

Majlinda Bregu ends her mandate at the RCC: 6 years of regional cooperation as a

The Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), Majlinda Bregu, completed her two mandates after being appointed in 2019. Bregu’s mandate was marked by an unwavering commitment to strengthening regional ties, advancing EU integration, achieving major successes and promoting key initiatives for the “Whole Western Balkans”.

"Six years ago, I started this journey with a vision: "to bring the countries of the Western Balkans closer together and closer to Europe."

It has been more energetic and challenging than I could have imagined. Striving for
concrete achievements, fostering a spirit of cooperation in a region historically oriented towards conflict, and keeping the light of hope for EU integration burning during the pandemic or even at times when the word enlargement was not mentioned – were just a few of them.

Today, I look back with pride at how many milestones we have moved.
Together, we eliminated roaming charges across the Western Balkans and reduced them with the EU by up to 97%.
We initiated the opening of green corridors during the pandemic and created the Regional Single Market Plan, a gateway to the EU Single Market.

We facilitated the recognition of diplomas and 7 professions for students and professionals: we empowered and created platforms for youth and innovation, such as Balkathon; we established the first regional network for women in entrepreneurship, not neglecting marginalized communities. We gave the Region the first Green Agenda with concrete obligations for the fight against pollution and environmental protection, etc.

6 dynamic years, full of work and more challenges than I could have imagined.

To everyone who supported me through good and bad throughout this journey, THANK YOU!

After 6 years, I can say with conviction that never before has this region been so aware of the importance of cooperation as it is today.
In a world where the only certainty is uncertainty, cooperation is vital!

Finally, but above all, a special thank you to the wonderful #RCC family.
In every challenge and every joy, in bittersweet days and sweet events, we have been together.
Gratitude to each of you and for the unforgettable moments we have shared.

Goodbye!
See you later!
Goodbye!
