CeraVe faces lawsuit in the US over the presence of a substance linked to cancer

The popular skin care brand CeraVe, one of the most recommended in the US, is facing 6 federal lawsuits related to claims that a carcinogenic substance may form in some of its products.
The products mentioned are:
Acne Foaming Cream Cleanser
Acne Foaming Cream Wash
The ingredient that has raised concerns is benzoyl peroxide, widely used in acne treatments.
According to the claims in the lawsuit, benzoyl peroxide is an unstable compound that can decompose when exposed to heat, forming benzene, a substance classified as carcinogenic to humans.
Researchers from Yale University have tested several CeraVe products in the laboratory and reported benzene levels of 5 to 12 ppm, while the limit allowed by the US Food and Drug Administration for certain cases is 2 ppm.
However, the claims are still subject to legal proceedings and the matter continues to be reviewed by the relevant authorities and courts.
