Why you shouldn't pluck your nose hairs

Experts warn that removing nose hairs could pose a serious risk to brain health.

Although it may seem like a trivial matter of personal care, plucking nose hairs carries a small but significant risk that many people are unaware of. The inside of the nose is located in what doctors call the “danger triangle” of the face. This area has a complex network of veins that are directly connected to the brain.

When a hair is forcibly removed, a very small wound is created at the root, opening the way for bacteria to enter the bloodstream and cause local infections.

Although rare, these infections can worsen and lead to life-threatening conditions, such as cavernous sinus thrombosis (blood clot), which can cause neurological damage. Because the blood vessels in this area do not have valves like in other parts of the body, bacteria can spread more easily to the brain.

To avoid this risk, dermatologists and doctors recommend using electric trimmers or small scissors to trim nose hairs, rather than plucking them.
