Spanish scientists manage to eradicate pancreatic tumors in mice with drug combination

Spanish scientists, led by Mariano Barbacid at the National Cancer Research Center, say they have managed to cause a large reduction in pancreatic tumors in mice, and in some cases eliminate them completely, using a triple drug combination.
They used daraxonrasib, an experimental KRAS inhibitor, along with afatinib, which targets the EGFR family of receptors, and SD36, a degrading protein that blocks STAT3. The goal was to block the main mechanism that drives cancer and the backup pathways that often make it resistant to treatment.
This is still animal research, not human, and clinical trials are needed to see if this method is safe and effective in humans. However, it is a major scientific step and an important success for Barbacid and his team in the fight against one of the most difficult cancers.
