New State Matura rules, supervision during exams strengthened

The State Matura is eagerly awaited by students and parents, as it constitutes a key moment in the continuation of the educational journey, where study preparations and the emotions of completing the cycle towards new university challenges are mixed.

Therefore, educational authorities begin preparations early to guarantee a fair and transparent process.

This year, the State Matura regulations also provide for changes from the previous year.

These changes particularly affect aspects related to remaining students and disciplinary measures during exams.

The General Director of the Directorate of Pre-University Education, Mirela Cami, explained to ATSH the changes foreseen in this regulation.

"Students who fail one or two subjects throughout the school year will not be able to take the June exams. These students will have to take these exams during the fall semester and then enter the State Matura in the second semester. If they fail 3 subjects, they lose the school year and will have to repeat it," Cami emphasized.

According to her, regional directorates, the Educational Services Center and all educational institutions will be notified at the end of the school year of the list of names of these students.

Another important change is related to the use of technological devices during exams.

"A high school graduate who appears at the exam center and is found to be using a cell phone, smartwatch, or other technological devices during the exam is excluded from that exam, but has the right to take it in the next session," Cami explained.

As for the administrators, Cami noted that they will not only have duties, but also responsibility for the smooth running of the process.

"Exam administrators are trained and are determined by electronic lottery in the presence of the director of ZVAP. Their duties regarding the administration of the exam process are clear, from identifying the graduates, not allowing them to change places during the exam, physical control for technological equipment, reporting irregularities, respecting schedules and other rules in accordance with the regulation for the State Matura 2026, which charge them with responsibility regarding the smooth running of the process," Cami underlined.

The Matura exams will contain 30-35 questions, including multiple-choice and essay questions.

Meanwhile, for the orientation and preparation of high school graduates, model tests for the upcoming exams have been distributed to all schools, orienting students to the format and requirements of the exams so that they are as well prepared as possible for the Matura exams.

To get an absolute grade of 10, the graduate must accumulate 60 possible points.
