The 2026 World Cup qualifiers, to be held in the USA, Mexico and Canada, are entering the decisive phase.
Japan was the first to secure participation on March 20. After them, New Zealand, Iran, Argentina, Uzbekistan, South Korea, Jordan, Australia, Brazil, Ecuador, Uruguay, Colombia and Paraguay have also made their way to the World Cup.
In South America, the process is almost complete. The last three automatic tickets went to Uruguay, Colombia and Paraguay after Venezuela lost 3-0 to Argentina. Now all that remains is to determine who will play in the international playoff.
In Europe, the competition continues until November with 54 countries competing, except for Russia which remains suspended. In Africa, there are expected to be surprises next week, while in Asia six teams have secured qualification and the next round begins in October.
The 2026 World Cup will be the first to feature 48 participating teams. Apart from the three host countries, only 13 national teams have so far secured their places, while the race for the remaining places promises to be exciting until the end.
