Carlo Ancelotti sentenced to one year in prison for tax evasion in Spain

Former Real Madrid coach and current manager of the Brazilian national team, Carlo Ancelotti, has been sentenced by a Spanish court to one year in prison for tax fraud committed in 2014. In addition, he has been fined over 386,000 euros that he must pay to the tax authorities.
However, under Spanish law, prison sentences of less than two years for non-violent offenses and without a criminal record are not physically enforced, so Ancelotti is not expected to serve this sentence in prison.
The court acquitted him of similar charges in 2015, due to a lack of evidence of his residence in Spain at that time.
For the next three years, Ancelotti will not be able to benefit from public aid or tax exemptions in Spain.
In his defense, Ancelotti stated that he had acted based on the advice of Real Madrid and his legal advisors, adding that he had repaid the debt in December 2021.
The Italian coach managed Real Madrid in two periods: 2013–2015 and 2021–2025, before taking charge of Brazil with the aim of leading them to a sixth world title in the summer of 2026.
