EU fines Google nearly 3 billion euros

The European Commission has fined Google €2.95 billion for violating competition rules by favoring its own digital advertising services. In addition to the fine, the EC has ordered the US company to stop “self-favouring” practices and avoid conflicts of interest in the online advertising supply chain.

This is the fourth time the EU has fined Google. The decision is expected to cause tensions with the US, as the US administration has often criticized the EU's approach to the tech giants.

According to the EC, Google has "abused its market power" to the detriment of competitors and publishers. The company has 60 days to propose a solution plan, otherwise it risks tougher measures, including the sale of part of its digital advertising (Adtech) business.
